Dr. Lili Liu earned her degrees from McGill University (B.Sc.OT) in 1984, M.Sc. (Rehabilitation Science) in 1988 and Ph.D. (Rehabilitation Science) in 1993. Currently she is Professor and Chair of the Department of Occupational Therapy, Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Alberta. She is also Research Affiliate with the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital and Research Associate with Capital Care (Alberta Health Services). Her research focuses on three themes: technologies for rehabilitation intervention and education (including Tele-rehabilitation, e-health and virtual reality), Universal Design and aging, and rehabilitation outcomes for older adults with chronic conditions. Currently, she is leading a study that examines how continuing care centres can provide efficient care while maintaining homelike environments for elderly residents. She is also collaborating with the Division of Industrial Design, Department of Computing Science, and Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences to design the “Smart Condo”, a project supported by the Health Sciences Education and Research Common (HSERC) at the University of Alberta. Dr. Liu is also leading a project that is implementing a learning platform to facilitate clinical education by allowing students and preceptors to participate in communities of practice via technology.
